Trudo Innovate with City Build

Stichting Trudo ("Trudo") is a medium-sized social housing corporation in the greater Eindhoven area. Every year, the housing association Trudo goes to a work conference with its employees. This year, a team of around sixty employees came together at the HUP Hotel in Mierlo to work on the revised vision 'Let's Innovate'. One of the activities that Trudo used for this was City Build. How did this go?

Supporting People. Let’s Innovate!

On Thursday, Trudo employees attended various innovation workshops. An activity that would make the new vision tangible was chosen for Friday. And that became City Build: an activity in which the team built 'Trudo City'. Trudo's core values of Connection, innovation and Courage naturally came back.

The goal: to bring a recalibrated vision to life

The assignment was clear: build a city where you bring the recalibrated vision together with the core values and make it come to life. In short, ensure a physical translation of the vision and core values, which sometimes remain abstract. This was the opportunity to show how the vision and core values could be woven into daily activities.

Trudo's employees were divided into different teams. Each team was responsible for a different part of the city, requiring collaboration to make the city a success. Something that of course also occurs during Trudo's daily work.

Trudo City: A model of the future

As always, the City Build activity was no ordinary team building activity. It was adapted to become a metaphor for Trudo's mission, vision and core values. In groups, the employees created Trudo Stad, an urban utopia that reflected sustainability, diversity and inclusion - the core of their work as a housing association.

In the city, there was room for different districts, such as residential and working districts, which made connecting factors such as roads and railways indispensable. Each team was responsible for its part of the city but had to ensure that the developed part was consistent with that of other teams. Only then could a cohesive city emerge, allowing the new core values to be implemented immediately.

The city's main goal was connection, but it took courage and innovation to achieve this connecting city.

From Building Blocks to city: The result

The result of the day was an impressive Trudo City, an example of creativity and collaboration. Each team presented their part of the city, the 'hexagons', and explained how their creations reflected Trudo's core values.

The result was certainly impressive! Everyone was very impressed with the built city. It is nice to see how the various elements form one whole, which can only be achieved through good cooperation between the different teams.

Building the future

With City Build, Trudo has not only built a city of the future but also worked together with all employees from the various departments to build the city. Something that has led to a stronger connection with the recalibrated vision. It's good to see that great things can happen when people come together around shared values.
