Trust between people is the most important basis of just about everything you want to achieve together. This also applies to the trust that exists (or does not) between employees. You build trust by having close contact with each other. And especially one-on-one contact. You can maintain it when you are together in groups, but it is especially in people-to-people contacts where you lay a strong foundation.
Office or home: big difference
If you work at the office, the one-on-one contact is much more present than when you work from home. Then it will be less automatic. If you don't work in the office, you have to put in a lot more effort to really stay in touch. And it's good to be aware of that. And the big question is whether this is the case: that employers and employees are aware of this. We do not immediately state that trust between employees has been damaged by the corona period that is (partly) behind us, but it has been more difficult to maintain close contact. For example, new employees have been hired in almost every organization who have not yet seen their colleagues in person. And you can click with each other, but to build trust you really need live contact. Then things arise organically.
That's how you solve it!
There are several ways to solve this. And one of the things you can tackle is to regularly create a moment from within the organization where you can work on this trust. Even if you regularly work online, it is good to set aside time in which employees can work on building trust with each other. It is not a matter of saying that you will trust each other, it is much more about creating the preconditions for employees to do this automatically. You can't let it run its course. For example, organize events more often, especially offline, where people can interact one-on-one and connect from a broader perspective. Meetings are not included. It is more about organizing social gatherings in which trust can arise (again). Trust is elusive, as is chemistry between people. It's about connection, always. Within our team building activities, the well-thought-out game element ensures that that connection is re-established.
