AI Won't Replace Your Job, But AI-Savvy Professionals Will Thrive

Published on 5 Jun 2023 by Alex ten Klei

One of the components of our Catalyst Teambuilding model is Practice Skills. In other words, which skills are suitable to want to develop in your employees? Because you don't just want to pay attention to the development of your high potential but to everyone. With the rise of Artificial Intelligence, there is a lot of uncertainty in the skills field because will AI eventually take over your job? Or are there ways to make AI work for you instead of against you?

What do we mean by Practice Skills again?

To refresh your memory, let's return to the basics of Practice Skills: Identifying important skills to develop from your corporate culture. This is how you, as an organization, signal how you want to treat each other and what behaviour goes with that.

These skills can be divided into hard skills and soft skills. Or, as you probably know by now, hard and human skills.

Hard skills

Hard skills are the hard skills you learn to do your job. These are skills that you have learned during your studies or previous positions. These hard skills are mainly factual and objective.

Human skills

The counterpart of hard skills is human skills. Because do your hard skills lead to you ending up in a position in which you manage? Then the skill 'leading' is expected of you, a human skill not covered during your studies.

Three Ways to Use Artificial Intelligence for your hard skills

Now that AI developments have entered a high-speed train, the controversy surrounding and resistance to these developments is also growing. People fear artificial intelligence will take over their work and try to stay as far away from it as possible. But turn it around; imagine AI helping you with your hard skills so that you have more time to develop your human skills. And if you initiate this within your organization, what great results can this lead to in terms of the human skills of your people? Results that have a positive effect on your organization in any case.

Therefore, please take a look at the way you use AI so that it can help you. Or at least study it to know what exactly you are against. Read below three ways how AI helps your hard skills.

AI to write essays, speeches and evaluations.

Enter the prompt 'explain in 4 lines how ChatGPT can help you write an essay in ChatGPT, and you will receive the following answer in no time:

Generate ideas: ChatGPT can help generate ideas for an essay. ChatGPT can suggest subtopics and arguments to include in the essay by entering a topic.

Getting information: ChatGPT can help gather information on the topic. By asking questions or entering keywords, ChatGPT can find relevant information and present it in a way that is easy to understand.

Add structure: ChatGPT can help organize the essay by suggesting the structure and layout of the different sections. It can also help formulate a thesis statement and the introduction and conclusion of the essay.

Language use and grammar: ChatGPT can help improve the language and grammar of the essay. It can suggest sentence construction, word choice, and punctuation to ensure the essay is well-structured and readable.

Now imagine what happens when you let ChatGPT do this for you. In any case, this will save you time and time to put into the human activities that come with your position.

AI to analyze data

A lot of time is spent analyzing data in various positions. The most beautiful pivot tables are conjured up from Excel to conclude them. But you can also easily outsource this, for example, to ChatGPT. This tool can analyze and interpret a lot of information very quickly. And maybe you can even draw conclusions from it that you didn't even know existed.

AI to make plans

Another time-consuming task is making plans. Meetings, deadlines, or even scheduling staff are no problem for AI. And do you have certain priorities or preferences regarding time or order? You only have to enter this and prepare your custom schedule before opening your agenda. And with a bit of luck, AI even has the human skill to schedule a lunch break for you ;)

Conclusion

Hopefully, after reading this article, you have become curious about the functionalities that AI brings. And especially functionalities that make your life a little easier. Just try it and then judge whether it's something for you. And if this is not the case, you will at least now know why it is not for you.
